Situated in the heart of Adelaide is Press* Food & Wine, a food and wine institution that has been around for many years. Decorated by Claire Kneebone of Claire Kneebone Studios, this well-established designer has helped in creating an element of surprise for the people of Adelaide with this light and vibrant space that offers an intimate dining experience. Featured alongst the bar and on a larger dining table is Cello Marble, creating a consistent space in which the Cello is truly the focal point of the dining room interior. With deep veining and a brown hue that incorporates grey undertones, this stone helps in bringing a rich sense of history to the restaurant that ultimately reflects their long history in Adelaide.

As part of our Designer Collaboration Series, CDK Stone’s Stone Director Tony Victor took a deeper look into this elegant property with Claire. Being the lead on this project, Claire was able to talk through her design decisions and how this project came together.

Discover this project today by watching Episode Eight of our Designer Collaboration Series.

Having originally designed this space twelve years before, Claire was excited by the opportunity to redesign the space to better match Press* Food & Wine’s personality and energy. With the building initially being based around communal dining and featuring darker colours, this space was completely reshaped to suit the needs of Press* Food & Wine whilst also catering to the needs of patrons in a post-COVID world.

The focus of this space was to generate a lighter and brighter space that exudes an alluring and compelling energy whilst offering cosy dining experiences. With this idea being the heart of the restaurant, it was decided that the stone needed to be unique and feature a lot of personality to elevate the space. Feeling courageous in their selection, Cello Marble was chosen due to its natural colours, striking veining, and impressive texture. With consumers directly interacting with the natural stone at their seats, this stone acts as a talking point that consumers are sure to enjoy whilst loving their meal.

Entering the space, your eyes immediately find the bar sitting in the middle of the space that is adorned by a Cello Marble benchtop the entire way around. This benchtop creates a space in which people can come and enjoy the European cuisine and extensive wine offering whilst socialising with people they know and people they don’t. The microcement paired with the Cello Marble allows for a natural energy to flow throughout the restaurant as the concrete aesthetic brings out the stark black veins of the Cello that is reminiscent of the appearance of mountains and geographic formations.

The dining table found towards the entrance of the restaurant makes for a space in which larger dining parties can engage and enjoy in a more secluded area. With Cello Marble beneath their fingertips, this natural stone brings life and character into the area, making customers feel comfortable in doing the same. The Cello again ties in nicely with the microcement against the walls to bring a warm glow to the interior.

The simple yet sophisticated designing of Press* Food & Wine makes for a refined and intimate aura that flows throughout the entire of the restaurant. Throughout this project, Claire Kneebone and Claire Kneebone Studios have helped in creating a space that showcases the history and warmth of the restaurant whilst also balancing the practicality that consumers seek when dining.

Throughout this project Claire Kneebone from Claire Kneebone Studios, worked with CDK Stone to make this project a reality.

As seen in this months issue of Supplier Magazine, the Launch of Laser Products Industries new software LT3Raptor.

“It’s a game-changer”

CDK Stone customers welcome new cloud-based LT3Raptor software for LT-2D3D templator

Within a month of launching its new cloud-based LT3Raptor software, CDK Stone has had feedback from stonemason customers who say it’s a “game-changer” because of its efficiency and ease of use with the LT-2D3D kitchen cabinetry laser templator.

The LT3Raptor, which is a new, upgraded platform from the current LT1 software, is providing significant benefits to customers who are dealing with labour shortages and therefore need to streamline their organisation, complete jobs faster and reduce stress levels for their staff.

“While the software is extremely user-friendly and intuitive, one of the biggest benefits is that it’s cloud-based,” says Divesh Sareen, CDK’s Product Manager – Software and Machinery. “This provides a centralised location to store, share and transfer information. There’s no more emailing of files, and there’s instant visibility for everyone involved in every job.

”Think of it like Google Drive – as soon as you scan a job, it automatically syncs it.”

While the software has the same simplicity as the previous model, the enhanced experience enables full customisation of the workspace, including toolbars, popup windows, screen appearance, quick action functions and touchscreen or keyboard/mouse mode.

“The user experience has become far more efficient, with fewer clicks or touches to complete a job out in the field,” Mr Sareen says.

A custom workflow can be created to track progress of all projects and productivity of staff.  All project templates, files, photos and shop sheets from the entire team can be saved, accessed and managed, including revision control and job status. User permissions can be created, assigned and managed for each member of the team, and their productivity tracked.

New Templating Intelligence function

  • LT3Raptor features Templating Intelligence technology that provides instantaneous capturing of measurement points.
IntelliEdge Detection lets users select edge profiles with one click.
  • Typical CAD tasks like offsets, filleting or object creation have been greatly improved, for example, creating a splash back aligned with the back edge is reduced to a one-click operation.
  • Admin-controlled settings maintain the same measuring standard.
  • There is an option to add pre-defined sink drop-ins.

“While the software is extremely user-friendly and intuitive, one of the biggest benefits is that it’s cloud-based”

By adding the Parallel Dimensioning feature, LT3Raptor automatically shows offset distances of segments not parallel to the corner-to-corner line. This helps greatly in deciding if the line can be smoothed out straight on jagged or bowed back walls.

The new software has a number of other valuable auto functions:

  • Auto orientation eliminates the need to rotate drawings and improves drop-in function.
  • Auto edge labelling inserts text with a profile code for each edge piece, ensuring easy visibility and identification.
  • Automatic error check helps prevent templating mistakes in real-time.
  • Automatic job manifest outputs all job pages and information into one PDF.

The software is the companion to the LT-2D3D laser templator, which allows one person to template an average kitchen in just 30 minutes. The templator enables accurate, cut-ready digital files for fabrication and installation, ensuring jobs are completed correctly the first time.

“Manual templating is no longer sustainable in an industry that is shifting from manual crafting to automated machining,” Mr Sareen says.

The LT-2D3D laser templator cuts out the manual measure and drafting process, providing the foundations for production with CNC-bridge saws, milling and polishing centres and waterjets.

The LT also integrates seamlessly with CDK Stone’s sophisticated CAM and slab digitizing software for streamlining advanced nesting, programming and vein-matching layouts.

More than half CDK Stone’s customers who have seen the LT3Raptor software have purchased it, and more than 200 jobs were completed in the first month following training.

CDK Stone offers training, onboarding and support. An integrated TeamViewer module in the software ensures quick, advanced remote support.

Have you read the latest issue of Supplier Magazine?

Featured in this months issue are CDK Stone’s range of water processing machines. Read the full article below on how embracing water processing and automation is creating space for a safer stonemasonry future.

A Safer Stonemasonry Future: Embracing Water Processing and Automation

In the active work of stonemasonry, the strategic integration of water processing and automation is pioneering a new age of safety and efficiency. With specialised machinery such as the Dal Prete water treatment system, Extra 480 CNC Bridge SawGMM Techni Water Jet, along with offerings from other notable brands like ComandulliBurkhardtThibaut, and Cobalm, businesses can tailor-make production lines that prioritise employee safety while enhancing operational efficiency.

The Essential Role of Water in Stonemasonry

In modern stonemasonry workshops and factories, water plays an indispensable role across various stages of stone processing, including cutting, milling, and polishing. Its strategic application has not only revolutionised the industry but also significantly enhanced the safety of stonemasons

Here’s why water is so crucial:

For Cooling the Tool: In stone processing, the temperature of diamond tools can significantly rise, leading to accelerated wear. Water acts as an effective coolant, preventing the tools from overheating and extending their lifespan. Importantly, this also reduces the risk of accidents from tool malfunction, promoting a safer environment for stonemasons.

For Removing Particles: Stone processing inevitably generates dust and particles. Water aids in removing these particles from the surface, reducing friction with the tool and ensuring a smoother, safer processing operation. By limiting dust production, water also contributes to a healthier workspace, reducing airborne particles.

For Cooling the Surface: Elevated temperatures can detrimentally impact the quality of the stone being processed, which could compromise safety. Water not only helps maintain the stone’s integrity by cooling the surface but also enables the cutting of more fragile materials with ease and efficiency. This ensures a high-quality finish and creates safer conditions for stonemasons.

The Integration of Automation and Water Processing: A Safer Future

By bringing together specialised machinery, each with its unique strengths, businesses can create a production line that significantly improves safety and efficiency. For example, the Extra 480 CNC Bridge Saw ensures accurate and neat cuts while operating in water. The GMM Techni Water Jet enables safe and intricate crafting by submerging the stone and water jetting out a desired shape, making it suitable for tasks like sink hole cuts. Then Comandulli Musa can polish the edges to achieve the desired finish, all while capturing and filtering the water back into Dal Prete’s water treatment system. This ensures sustainable water recycling and contributes to a cleaner environment for employees while saving the expense of additional water.

At the heart of this transformation is the SEKON software, which enables the interconnectivity and optimal performance of these machines. It ensures safer and more efficient operations through the automation of processes, reducing the potential for human error and workplace accidents.

By embracing the power of water processing and automation, the stonemasonry industry is pioneering a future where workplace safety and operational efficiency are paramount. This forward-thinking approach results in tailor-made production lines that not only create safer environments for employees but also streamline business operations. As the industry continues to evolve, the central role of water and automation in promoting safety and driving development is becoming increasingly evident.
